“The 21st century marked rapid industrialization driven by the use of fossil fuels. The 21st century will be carbon neutral. Associate Professor Masaki Ihara of Shinshu University has found that chlorophyll, the green pigment found in all green plants, helps activate oxygen in crude oil when exposed to sunlight. This allows microorganisms in the environment to eat the oil, breaking it down in the process to clear water and soil.“ ーShinshu University
